4th Annual Fundraiser

Layup: a field goal attempt made by leaping from below, laying the ball up near the basket using one hand to top the ball over the rim or banking it off the backboard and into the basket.

Literacy: the ability to use language – to read, write, listen and speak; to handle information, to express ideas and opinions, to make decisions and solve problems; to contribute to your community  as a lifelong learner.

Just as the Layup is considered the most basic shot in basketball,
Literacy is the most basic skill taught in life.
It is one of the most important building blocks to a life of opportunity and success.

  • Do you play basketball?
  • Are you a female student athlete willing to show off your style?
  • Do you want to make a difference in your community?

You are invited to join dozens of other local girl basketball players on Sunday Dec. 6th at the Roosevelt High School gym in the third annual Layups for Literacy – a two hour marathon of participants shooting layups to raise money for the Northwest Literacy Foundation to put great new books in public school libraries.

Interested?  Register as a player; seek out pledges from friends and family; and earn community service hours while you practice your basketball skills!

To register, please email or call the event Chair Elisabeth “Sis” Odland at boombah1991@aol.com  or 206-522-8943

Event Volunteers are also needed on Sunday Dec. 6th with Community Service Hours available.  Please join us!  Parent volunteers are welcome.
