ROOSEVELT BASKETBALL GOALS & EXPECTATIONS

1.    Stay up on your schoolwork.  That’s your #1 responsibilty.

2.    Be the best teammate you are capable of being. Do not pout,
complain, give excuses or treat anyone without the utmost respect. Fred
Shero, a famous hockey coach, once said, “The system comes first. It
is above superstars.”

3.    Do not miss or come late to practice. Pete Carroll summed it up
best, “Being punctual is good in itself. However, what is more
important is that your punctuality tells your teammates what you think of
them.”

4.    Do not let any opponent out work you. Practice is far more
important than games. If you are used to the other way around you will
not find success.

5.    Defense dictates everything. It takes an opponent’s will and
makes her quit. If you are unwilling to work on defense or can’t
assimilate the fundamentals you will be taught, you won’t be playing in
close games. On that subject, playing time is earned. It’s not a
birthright. In close games we won’t be playing more than nine people. If
you can’t root for your team you don’t deserve a uniform.

6.    We don’t want any team we face to be in better condition than us
or tougher than us. And we want to be the smartest team in the league.

7.    Roosevelt should stand for class. We don’t leave garbage in
opponent’s locker rooms, we respect calls by refs and we pick up our
teammates when they make a mistake. All in all, we want to be the kind
of team others admire for our work effort and sportsmanship.
